Saturday April 30 - tomorrow; Mayday, Mayday

After almost two weeks on the road, or more correct; in the air, we are now back in beautiful Budapest.
TG's yeasterday, Pomo d'oro tonight, grilling tomorrow and then school again for m on Monday. Life is not THAT bad... :-)

Where else than in London you'll find those funky shoes?

Or stumble on celebrities roaming the streets?

Tuesday April 26 2011 - Wicked Oliver

I don't know how far we walked today, but it was far, even according to our standards! We made the London Eye, some 4D show, bought tickets for the musical "Wicked" for tomorrow, and shopped a lot. At least me and little m.
Jamie Oliver was if not a disappointment, at least not THAT hilarious. The guy has skills and ambitions, but not a very motivated staff. He has a bunch of restaurants in London. We went to "Jamie's Italian". Atmosphere was promising, food was ok. Not more. First of all we had to send back all our dishes to the kitchen. Little m's pasta with butter, came out with tomato sauce, my fish dish came as a another pasta with tomato sauce. I asked the waitress if this really was the white fish I had ordered. She told me that the fish was cooked in to the tomato sauce. Then I asked for the menu, and showed her the ingredients according to this. She reluctantly admitted that I had got something else, and asked if I wanted to wait another 15 minutes for what I actually had ordered. YES PLEASE! After 20 minutes I got it. By then M's risotto was cold, and had to do another round in the microwave oven.
Maybe our expectations were to high, due to the fact that we have really good Italians in Budapest. Tomorrow we try something else.

Tuesday April 26 2011 - God shave the queen

Yesterday we had nice fish and other sea food at "Loch Fyne" in Covent Garden. Today we try out the London Eye, and do some shopping. Maybe we eat at Jamie Olivers Italian. Let's see...

Friday April 15 2011 - playing with the big boyz

Read in todays "Aftonbladet" that finally, after almost 200 years of peace, the Superswedes could join the big boys, and play war in Libya. Superfighter "JAS" entered Libyan airspace, and fired of it's cameras, and made a photo of an anti-aircraft gun. According to the Swedish military, this is the photo which will decide the outcoming of the war. Because of this contribution it will be a walk in the park for NATO. Again according to high rank Swedish officers.
Of course someone else will have to do the dirty job, as peace loving and ethical Swedes do not fire missiles.
We're as innocent as the guys standing in a ring at the school yard, watching a small kid get beaten up by five bigger ones, yelling; Hit him!!! Hit him!!

Another story that shows how human Swedes are;  I learned in military service once; Swedish 7,62mm ammunition is better balaced than the NATO equals (and of course much more expensive) The reason is to make smaller exit holes, after shooting someone. A headshot causes only an exit hole of a mandarine's size. Nato version? A orange sized hole. Swedes are soooo human :-) We also learned that the enemy always attacks from the east. But that was of course maaany years ago.

Seems now to be a chance to try out the ammunition theory in practice;
I read in the same paper that the Danes consider Swedes in general as idiots. I like those Danes, sort of... :-)
Wouldn't surprise me if Sweden now declare war against Denmark, the horns getting longer after the African escapade.
Last war was otherwise against Norwegians 1814. I guess the Norweigians won, but I don´t know for sure, as I was sick the day the subject was up in school, and I haven't Googled it...

Today is last day in school for little m. A two weeks spring break is ahead.
This will be celebrated at the brand new Osteria Undici (without little m...)

Tuesday April 12 2011 - just for the show

Nothing much new in this part of Europe. Some more days, and then little m has a two week spring-break. This we will spend in Båstad, Tallinn and London. Heard that there is still a lot of snow in Estonia, so we'll have to spend the time inside, since all winter clothes are stored away. Can't even remember where they are... :-)

Last Saturday they had a charity day at school. Collecting money for some I don't know what. Thought this was a favourite American habbit, but seems that the Brits are catching up. I HATE those kind of gatherings. Small talk with people you don't care a bit about. Lining up in long queues for stupid activities. More or less forced to spend money on lotteries, buying things you don't need and so on. I spent 40 EUR on a hot dog for the show, and skipped the rest. 3 wasted hours and a lousy mood later we finally went home, just to find out that I missed the Formula one qualifying... :-(   Won't happen again... :-)

Strawberry time! Nice gene manipulated berries;

Monday April 4 2011 - Thunder in the air

Last week I spent mostly in Italy and Slovenia. The highlight of this working trip was a dinner at Trattoria Tony del Spin in Treviso. Even if my working colleague got sick and headed for the hotel after ordering his food, I had a great evening. Enjoying italian cooking and wine at its best. Lucky me got double portions of everything... :-)

I think April is one of my twelve favourite months. Trees are blossoming, everything is light green, and there are loads of half naked tourists roaming the streets. All restaurants have built up their outside serving area. Grilling season has started with long slow evenings on our roof terrace, and still not boring :-) However today we had to escape inside again, as the first real thunderstorm of the season attacked us... Now preparing steaks, chicken drumsticks and sausages on the electric grill in the kitchen.
A long warm summer is ahead.
