Sunday January 9 2010 - minus 3 and counting

First a report regarding my weigh loosing programe; 3kg in one week (minus that is...) The key to this is to have a small breakfast and at least 1000g meat in the evening. Plus to run a lot. Did more than 30 km in the last 7 days .-))

Makes you sweaty. Then it's good to have a shower, and if showering is too boring, you can always try to make it a bit more fun, Marleen is always in for good time...

Monday January 3rd 2011 - new year resolution

cause of my swollen knee, I havn't been a very frequent visitor to the gym or the running tracks since October. Only the eating habbits have been kept up. Resulting in an extra four kilos until X-mas, and another two during this eating holiday. Now lazy dayz are over!! Will loose those 6 kilos befoe Ischgl, end of the month!!
I'll keep my readers posted about the progress. 85 kg is the target, or at least less than 86...

Got good news from Hilda today, she will join us to Ischgl. YES :-)))

Heading out for the first joggingtour of the year;

Wednesday December 29 2010 - Friday??

We had some very nice dayz in good old Ischgl (you can see some pictures in Facebook...)
It was very cold. Minus 17 on the the mountain, no wind, but still freeezing cold. We stayed at Hotel Goldener Adler, with a golden location.
I tried to convince M to buy a new snowboard jacket. Bogner's Canadian Mountain Challange, but she firmly declined. 1200 EUR is too much for a "Shikcy Micky" outfit she said. She might be right... So we'll try to find something from O'Neill here in Budapest instead. At least she bought a new ski helmet. In the old one she looked like a Hell's Angel prospect.
Now we are already planning next Ischgl tour. Looks like only 57% of the kiddos will join. One is too pregnant, and another just too much fifteen...
Last idea is to fly them in to Budapest, and start the trip from here. The flight fare from Malmö to BUD is only 12,00 EUR, including taxes. Amazing... But they (Wizzair) earn their money on luggage, 15,00/bag, credit card fee, 5,00 EUR per leg and ticket. If you forget to check in on internet you have to pay another 10,00 in extra fee at the airport. Too big hand luggage is punished with another 60,00!!! EUR This can add up to 90,00 extra EURO if you are not aware about the rules. But we are, so they have to rob someone else...

Tonight we will catch up on some serious Friday dining what we missed on the last weeks while out of town.

Little m hasn't forgotten how to ski since last season;

Thursday Dec 23rd 2010 - X-mas is OVER :-)) yes!!!

For Me, M&M,  X-mas is officially over. We had our annual pre-x-mas celebration in Båstad last weekend. With meatballs and all the kids. And Santa of course. He's getteing older and older, but still going strong :-)
We also had time for some serious ginger bread production, sledging, company party and other important things.
Anyway, we have threwn out the (plastic) tree, cleaned up the house, and returned to base in Budapest. It was a temperature difference of 26 degrees. Minus 18 in the morning when we woke up in Båstad, Plus 8 when we landed. And no snow of course. Perfect, I would say... :-)
Unpacking, and repacking has been on the program today. Skis, snowboards and other winter equipment are now stowed in the car. Tomorrow we go skiing in Austria. Even if the Austrian border is only 170 km away, we have a little longer drive, as we are heading Ischgl in the Western part of that snowy country. Four days on powder, and then back for Sylvester in Hungary.

Yesterday we went to da Pippo, and today it will be Trattoria Toscana. Have to catch up... :-)

All of us...

and much to much gifts, as always. Next year there will be nothing... ehhh.? :-)

Tuesday Dec 14th 2010 - Busy Bee (Me)

Just back to Budapest after two days in a frozen Slovenia. Unpack, and repack - will fly with M&m to Sweden tomorrow. X-mas with EPC, and then X-mas with LKVHMm&M.
Busy days. Back to BP Wednesday 22nd again.

Jeeeeszus Maria, and check out the little German guy with "vokuhila"...

Friday Dec 10 2010 - pre pre x-mas preperations

Not much new to report from under the Hungarian moon.
Went to get a new EKG evaluation some days ago, and I'm healthy as a fish. A healthy fish. Surgery is however postponed until after 2x skiing, so it might be in February or something like that. I still jogg a bit. 5 km at the time. No problem during jogging, but a bit swollen stiff afterwards. No big deal.
Today little m had X-mas show in the school. All students from year 1 to 6 performed in front of a huge crowd of excited parents. Little m was "Mary" in Bethlehem. Spoke with a loud and clear voice in front of all those people. Made the father´s heart beat a little faster. I don't have that much experience in those things, despite being a 6x father. Last thing in this field what i remember was when Maja played guitar on a "Lucia" celebration some years ago. Didn't even knew she played the guitar before this event. Shame on me...
Weather was very nice last week. we had 15 degrees and a beautiful yellow sun in a dark blue sky. Now the temparature has fallen 15 degrees, but the sun is still there.
Linda is right now in New York for some serious shopping. She will come directly to Båstad next Wednesday, for our annual pre X-mas celebration.
Btw, booked the hotel in Ischgl for the real x-mas eve today. Haven't told the girls about it yet...

Little m with her friends Rachel and Mia;

Thursday December 2nd 2010 - anticlimax

Yesterday I went to "Szent János Korház", which is the biggest hospital in Budapest. Normally we go to First Med Clinic, or Telki, which are cozy, friendly and efficient private clinics.
Why the hell did they send me to Szent János??
It's a scary place. Big and ugly. 50 old buildings spread out on a huge fenced area.
All my senses screamed "RUN", but I'm sure there would be some dog patrols who would hunt me down when trying to escape over the fence.
I told myself, that it is maybe only the outside what looks a little grim, so I went in. Inside was worse.
If you have seen movies about the battle of Stalingrad, or seen the hospital wing of a Gulag in Siberia, you know what I mean... on top of that it was crowded and cold inside. The main entrance of building 25 was used also as emergency entrance, with ambulances lined up to deliver their content of wounded people. As it was the trauma unit, it was loads of bloody people pouring in. One in worse condition than the other.
Somehow they were pretty efficient, and there were plenty of staff in all kind of private winter jackets. Inside that is. So I got some X-rays taken within some minutes. Then some blood samples. The male nurse (if he was a  nurse, and not from the maintenance department) as the guy acted like a butcher. After assaulting the upper side of my hand for some minutes with a big needle, all the time mumbling "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." he had to put a big pressure bandage on, to stop the worst bleeding. I gave my hand a glance, and saw the reason for the pain. Suffusion big as a half apple. A BIG apple. Then he tried his luck on my arm. After some new piercing attempts, he actually found a vein.
I was then lead up to the ward. To my surprise I got a newly renovated VIP room, with my own bathroom. Like another world.
The bed was nice, and I had plenty to read.
This morning they woke me up, took an EKG, shaved my leg and disinfected it with iodine (jod??). At 08.15 prompt, as promised I was on the surgery table. My surgeon, all the nurses in full battle outfit, the narcosis doctor with his anesthesia shot in his right hand, while he was checking my EKG results.
Then everything stopped. He was showing the printout to the surgeon, and after some Hungarian mumbling. The doc explained that they couldn't give me the anesthesia due to some irregularities with the EKG result. What the hell, I heard myself say far away in some echo, as I had got some blue pills before to keep me happy and calm.
Doc explained that the surgery had to be postponed. I asked him to continue anyway, without anesthesia. But he kindly refused.
So here I am, at home with a shaved orange knee. Still with a mess inside.
Will have a new EKG next week at First Med, and then we will see what will happen or not happen.

I had to draw a scar, not to disappoint little m too much:

Tuesday November 30th 2010 - below the radar

At Pomodoro last Saturday, we sat next to a big bunch of Norwegians. There are plenty of them here in Budapest, studying medicine. If you see a "pizza" on the ground after a weekend, you know that at least one of them was out partying the day before. So far I never saw a Hungarian throwing up...

Anyway, those at the neighboring table were some exceptions. They asked for alcohol free wine. The waiter asked them several time what they meant with that? Wine without alcohol?? Never heard of. He even asked some other waiters, but they also looked at the crowd with big eyes, all shaking their heads, with amazed face expressions...
This is after all Hungary!

There were at least nine girls at the table. All looking the same; slim, blond hair, blue eyed, pretty faces. Perfect Aryans, if you would have asked Dr Joseph Goebbels.
To me they looked all from the same mould. As Japanese’s or Chinese’s. You can't make a difference between those people. I actually caught myself staring at them...

Today I will sneak below the radar for some days. No computers or cell phones allowed at the hospital. Wish me luck... :-)

Saturday Nov 27 2010 - less mess

Yesterday I had a discussion with someone who told me that luxury is to be able to afford a maid who keeps your home tidy and shining.
I do not really agree. Luxury for me is to be able to have time to clean and scrub it myself.
Is less more, or is more less? That's the question. Was it Shakespeare who said those wise words as he stood with a cleaning cloth in his hand?

Less work is not necessary less money but definitely more time.
How much/little of money/time makes you happiest? :-) BALANCE is the key word.

Anyway, it feels really nice to  have come that far in life that you do not have to prove your own excellence toward others with career, long hours, and a cleaning lady...

Btw, we just hired a cleaning lady in Båstad. A bit contradictive to what I just wrote. But that's another story :-))

T & G yesterday, and Pomodoro today. That's what I call quality time :-)

Wednesday November 24 2010 - uups, op!

Doc just called. Operation is on for next Wednesday. They will let me out from hospital only Saturday 3 days later. How come? I thought they threw out the patients the same day?
Maybe the answer is my private insurance? In this case the hospital do not have to save money, they collect. More days=more money???  Guess that's the answer.
Anyway, I told him I have to be out by Friday. Can't miss T&G. Right??

Seems that some readers of this blog can't tell the difference between a hairy knee and a skull, so here an example of a the brain operation I will have next week... :-)

Monday November 22 2010 - old war wound

Saturday and Sunday's jogging tour did not do any improvements to my knee. More like opposite. So today I was back to see the doc. Next week he will do some surgery. Don't ask me what he will do. I don't want to know. However he thought that the idea of skiing during x-mas was a little optimistic. I will prove he's wrong Believe me!!! :-)

This is my new combat cut;

Sunday November 21 2010 - Not a very slow Sunday...

Today we were at a children's party. Attila in m's class turned 6 years. His parents thought it was a great opportunity to get to know other moms and dads. So while an entertainer/clown tried to entertain the children, the parents mingled in the kitchen with wine and small sandwiches. The only problem was that the childrens noisy games made any conversation impossible, despite the fact that clown constantly roared and finally lost her temper. I guess she's not used to kids...
Last time we were in such a party, the children had access to a drum set. The drum set is to prefer ...
Now we are back home again in silent and homy atmosphere. Next Sunday it's time for new parties, and the week after again. Sigh. I thought I escaped that kind of events after fleeing from Sweden for twelve years ago.
In sheer despair, I shaved off my hair after we got home. Now I look like an American recruit ... Well, it might grow back ...

Yesterday we walked past the Christmas Market on Vörösmarty tér when we were going to Pomodoro. Little m bought a gingerbread angel. It had no feet. Just a long dress. Then came the question of why angels do not have any feet. I suggested that it could be because they they have wings and therefor did not need feet. Alternatively, we could question m's grandmother, because she is an angel. Little m thought for a moment, and said it was probably a better idea to Google it ... This is how they are, today's children... :-)

X-mas market in Budapest is more about food than anything else...

Saturday November 20 2010 - LED in the night

Now, after six years of drilling and digging they have soon finished building the Metro 4 here in Budapest. Was expected to be opened 2011.
The city has now cancelled the contract with French Alstrom, who were supposed to supply the trains. The brakes do not meet the Hungarian standards they say. Alstrom delivers the same trains for a lot of cities worldwide. Have never had anyone who complained about the brakes before. Now they will procure new trains. Delivery time is estimated to 5 years. Sometimes I really wonder how Hungarian ticks... What will they do with the tunnels until then??

I stopped jogging because of my broken knee on 20 September. Today, exact two months later, I started slowly again. Went out a little loose with 5km. Feels super good. Have really missed running ...

Today we will go to Pomodoro with litte m. No babysitter. Nice to have her with us once in a while... :-))

This is how an electrified umbrella looks. Full of small LED lights on both inside and outside, that changes color all the time. Lightens up a gray autumn evening. A petty it doesn't rain that often...

TG it's Friday November 19th 2010

I am back in Budapest after two windy days in Sweden. One night we (me, a collegue and a supplier) stayed over in Helsingborg. Had a "tura"; meaning that we went with the ferry from Swe to Helsingor in Denmark back and forth 3 times, while dining and wining (not whining). It was 14 years since, but not as funny as I remembered it...

Our new car has been parked on the street for 6 days now, and already the lock in the drivers door is missing. Car unlocked, but nothing missing. Guess the alarm scared those bastads off.
After one car theft, and one attemt of burglary, I have now booked an appointment to build in the latest of anti-theft systems for cars. Will be an extra system that notifyes me with a sms if the alarm goes off. As well as if the car will move away, as it has a hidden GPS tracker. The advantage with this is that I always can track the car and see exactly where it is, I can also turn off the petrol pump with an sms. Meaning that the car will stop...
The disadvantage is that M also can track the car via the same system... hmmm.... :-)

Today it's Friday and we will dine at T&G. In other words; TG it's Friday!!! :-)

After two weeks of nice and sunny weather with 20 degrees day time, it's now only 10, and a little rainy. Good thing with that is that we can try out our newest gadget, an electrifyed umbrella. Will make a photo and you can admire it tomorrow.

Sunday November 14 2010 - cheers

Was nice to back to Pommis yesterday. The crew there had missed us as much as we missed them... Like coming home...
Today has been a VERY busy day. Had to catch up the work I couldn't do last week at the fair. I also had to fit in pancakes & DH, as well as the final F1 race for the season. A very exciting one. Only bad thing is that Vettel became world champion, and not Alonso. But he will have his chance next year again.
Tomorrow I will fly to Sweden again for some meetings. Back on Wednesday afternoon again.

Saturday Nov 13 2010 - Back to base

Just a shortie; back to Budapest in one piece after a week in Jönköping (av alla ställen...)
Had a nice road trip through Germany, Czech Republik and Slovakia today.The car was as good as expected :-))
Soon time for Pommis, so bye for now :-)

Saturday November 6th 2010 - guess the artist...

Yesterday H&m and K&W stayed over, ate Spaghetti Bolognaise and wathed TV.
Today we had our yearly artist day, meaning that everyone had to paint a picture. Was nice... :-)

Who can guess the artist??;

November 4 2010 - my new love....

This is the new beaty, only difference is that our is black...;

Tuesday November 2 2010 - leaving for a roadtrip....

Today I cleaned of my desk and I did all boring stuff that has not been as important and therefore been postponed and postponed and postponed...
The reason is that I will leave for Sweden for It's time for me to go on a little tour to Sweden. Fair in Jönköping next week. Looking forward to it all with horror mixed emotions.
In spite of all work, we have even had time to vaccinate the whole family against the flu, and enjoyed a supper at McDonalds.
Now I'll pack my things, and set the alarm clock for 4am.  Will bring "Kajsas" car to Swe, and collect my new beauty on Thursday :-))

The surgery team the other day...

Sunday Oct 31 2010 - Halloween...

Today is Sunday, and the Pomodoro and Trattis are done in due order.
We hollowed out a pumpkin this afternoon, me and little m. The result was pretty good actually.
Now we have chicken drum sticks in the oven.

Otherwise not much to report today, more than that we have lovely autumn weather, and that little m starts her mid-term vaccation tomorrow. No alarm clock needed not even for me, because it is bank holiday. Maybe I uncork a bottle of wine to celebrate ...
Btw, Emma would have turned 86 today. Cheers... :-)

This is the result of the operation;
